A graduate of the University of the Arts (2019), Akiyah primarily works with oil paints and graphite, while exploring her handling of other mediums such as watercolor, scratchboard, digital art, acrylic paints, and bookbinding. Her works are a means of evaluating the self and others with a sort of confrontational element to them, as well as creating a narrative for unique African American experiences. Akiyah has interned with the Center for Emerging Visual Artists (CFEVA). Akiyah has participated in numerous art shows such as “AND I’M BLACK”, “Student Self Portrait Exhibition” in Gallery One at the Kimmel Center, Inc, and “A Day in the Life of an Artist of Color” at St. Mary’s Church in Hamilton Village at Penn.
